9.11 Never Forget | twoplusmeandyou.com

It’s almost hard to believe that 15 years have passed since the September 11 attacks.

9/11 is to me what the day John F. Kennedy died was to my mother – no matter how much time passes I can remember exactly what I was doing the morning the twin towers were struck.

I was a senior in college, my final semester at Michigan State. I was getting ready to go to my job on campus, sitting on the couch putting my make-up on when I heard the news about the first explosion on the television. Like most of America I was glued to the TV when we all witnessed the second plane crash into the World Trade Center live on the news, followed by watching the towers fall and the world around us unravel.

Walking through campus was quiet and everything seemed hazy that day. Strangers became friends, in tragedy we bonded and grew stronger and promised to never forget.

September Goals | twoplusmeandyou.com

Well, it’s been a minute since I last posted and now it’s time to hold myself accountable to the goals I set for myself last month. Here we go…joining Breakfast at Lilly’s: The Road to a Better Me link-up!

August Goals Recap

  1. Get in10K steps per day// Hahaha, yeah. Big fail. I never even wore my Fitbit once the entire month, in fact Michael took it from me to use about two weeks ago.
  2.  Complete a (mobile) phone detox// This didn’t happen either but we’re still super passionate about this topic so I’m going to make this a goal for September.
  3. Baptism// Rae’s I planned – we even had an entire Wunderlist going to organize everything. That said, we were still finalizing all the little details the week of the event. Seems that’s how I function, I thrive in stressful last minute situations.
  4. Leave the office on time// Success!! Sure there may have been a few later nights here and there but I’d say 85% of the time I was out the door on-time so to me that’s goal accomplished!

September Goals

  1.  Complete a (mobile) phone detox// I have the skeleton built, just need to execute and write it up! Hopeful to accomplish this with my Hubby this month!
  2. Read a book// Just prior to Labor Day weekend I bought a book for the first time in, well two years, that wasn’t a children’s book! Present Over Perfect, I hope, will ground me once again so that I can refocus my lifestyle and reconnect with the things that are most important to me – the people in my life.
  3.  Start making Grace & Rae’s Halloween Costumes// While some may say that it’s only September I say, oh my I only have about 6 weeks to make two little costumes before all the festivities begin!! Throw in work, house maintenance, family trips to the cider mill, gymnastics classes, Mom2Mom sales, etc. those 6 weeks really go by fast and free time slips away as quickly as Summer did! I don’t have to have the costumes made this month – but I need to have a plan and materials purchased!

Ok guys, I’m only going with 3 goals this month because, well to be frank, because I’d don’t want to over-promise and under deliver. So I’m going to see if I can at least accomplish 3 things this month, and if so then we can consider upping it next month. 😉

REBLOG: To the Thirtysomething Mums — Littles, Love and Sunshine

8 / 8 / 167 / 30 / 16

I stumbled upon this letter written by another mommy blogger and it connected with me so much that I just had to share it with you too! This momma has received hundreds of comments and re-posts on her letter, mostly positive but some not so much.

It’s not that we’re letting ourselves go as much as it’s putting our little ones first. That’s how it should be (opinion of one here.) When you become a mom your world changes. You don’t sleep until the little ones are read to, tucked in, bottles washed, house picked up, lunches packed and clothes hung out for the next day. That is what we signed up for when we decided to become moms. I can personally say that I don’t put make-up on every day like I used to, I haven’t worn heels in two years and I often rush out of the house with wet, un-styled hair and that is completely fine with me. Our time on this planet is precious and I would rather “lose myself for a decade” by soaking up as much time as I can with my two precious kiddos. So well said Catherine!

August Goals | twoplusmeandyou.com

Part of my decision to blog again is to get out all the thoughts that are swirling around in my mind on a daily basis. I’m really good at making lists of all the things I need to do —  but tackling the items on those lists is something that I seem to struggle with. So I’m taking a new approach and am going to document my “to do’s” in goal form, here in front of all of you. Perhaps this will hold me more accountable if I get it out there in blog-land.

  1. Get in10K steps per day// Michael bought me a FitBit when I was home on leave but now that I’m back to work I find that I’m only getting in 5K steps per day, at best. I really, really, really want to work towards making 10K steps the rule and not the exception.
  2.  Complete a (mobile) phone detox// This is something that Michael and I have been discussing (and struggling with) for about a month now. Time to put our money where our mouth is!
  3. Baptism//Rae’s baptism is this month so I really need to organize and get my party planning on so that I don’t stress myself out worrying about all the details at the last minute. Time to get moving on making some paper flower decorations, stat!
  4. Leave the office on time// My one fear about going back to work is falling into the same traps that I used to. Meaning I get wrapped up into a task or start a new task at 4:45pm when I know I won’t be able to have it completed by 5pm in order for me to leave the office on time. Given my long commute I really need to leave at 5pm on the dot in order to be home at a decent time to see the girls. Even leaving at 5:10 or 5:15pm puts me in the worse traffic.

Ok guys, any helpful tips or words of motivation this month will help! Thanks in advance!

prayers for an inspirational momma

Prayers for an Inspirational Momma | twoplusmeandyou.com

Last week I received some heartbreaking news that affected me so much more than I had expected it to. A momma that I know lost her baby girl at 14-months old. She was born with a chromosomal abnormality called Trisomy 18,  many babies with this condition don’t survive birth. Of those that do, less than 10% make it to their first birthday. This little superhero made it 14-months before losing her fight.

This momma is a friend of a friend…but my heart instantly saddened the moment I got the call. It was by chance that I happened to be working from home that morning, so on my lunch-break I went to my daughter’s school just to hold her in my arms while she napped. For the rest of the day I felt numb, and would randomly tear up at the mere thought of what this momma was going through. Though I cannot image the pain she is dealing with, I have to say that she is an inspiration. Because I don’t want to be one more person to tell her “I’m so sorry for your loss” the only way I can express my heartfelt condolences is by sharing my thoughts here.

happy anniversary to us

Two + Me & You | wedding day | twoplusmeandyou.com
wedding day | twoplusmeandyou.com

Four years ago today I said “I do” to my love, my rock, my best friend and the man who one day became the most amazing daddy to our girls.

In honor of our anniversary, I thought perhaps I’d share with you the story of  how the hubs and I met so that you can get to know a little more about me.

Michael and I met at work. The team I was working on at the time liked to frequent the bar next door, as did Michael’s team so we often hung out after hours. It was purely social in the beginning (or so I thought) but after about a month he asked me out…via text. Now, I will admit I’m a bit of a traditional girl and was not impressed by being asked out via text message so I said “no thanks” (OK really I made up some excuse like having to wash my hair, same thing.)

He asked me out a second time and I told him that I was not interested in dating a co-worker, that I had these “rules.” The rules included not dating someone at work, someone younger and a few others – all of which he broke.

Long story short, one day I hadn’t heard from him (we typically chatted over instant message throughout the day) and I realized that I missed him. So I became intrigued but still kept my guard up. Through some slyness on his part, one night we ended up going to dinner and before we knew it we closed down the restaurant.

We would talk in the parking lot for hours on end. It went on like this for weeks until one day it just sort of organically morphed into this romantic relationship.

The rest they say, is history. Fast forward 6 1/2 years, two moves, one house and two babies later and here we are! Happy 4 years to us, cheers!

the mom struggle

The Mom Struggle | twoplusmeandyou.com

I recently returned back to work after being home with my babies for 12 weeks. In the weeks leading up to my return I went through the expected range of emotions, sadness to be leaving my babies and guilt for being a working mom. I have been dealing with this angst for over two years – work or stay home? On one hand I want to spend as much time as possible with the girls, I mean they aren’t this little forever! On the other hand I want to show them that they too can have a career and a family.

my go-to baby gear: newborns to 2 months

7 / 21 / 166 / 20 / 18

Let’s be honest, a lot of being a parent is trial and error. No matter how much you research baby products you just never know how you or your baby will like something until after you’ve tried it.  After having two babies have a pretty good handle on what baby gear was useful during the first few months (at least for us.) Here’s what I found to be the most useful items with both babes!

love you longer

Let Me Love You A Little Longer | twoplusmeandyou.com

As my maternity leave comes to an end I find myself focusing in on moments with my littlest love, Rae. I have come to realize this time around that, while I like to believe that I remember all the moments from my first little love (Grace,) unfortunately as time goes on sometimes the memory fades. Like the squeaking sound of her first coos (we called her “squeaks,”)  how her arms bent like a little T-Rex when we dressed her, or how she loved when we made howling and owl sounds.

I wish I could record every moment, so that I can replay it over and over in a few years. This littlest love of mine. She smiles with her eyes. When she snuggles she fits perfectly right under the crook of my chin and can sleep there for hours. Her feet dance when she’s excited. Her innocent and loving gaze when she’s nursing that says she needs me as much as I need her.

Time slips by much too quickly, I blinked and my little babies grew up.  If I could, I would hold them in my arms all day and all night forever. I want to hold onto these amazing little creatures forever and never let go. I want to love on them a little longer.

Hello World | twoplusmeandyou.com

Hello world and so we meet again! Welcome to Two + Me & You!

Where do I begin? Well… I used to have a blog. It failed. I’ve dabbled with the thought of starting a new blog for a few years now and it wasn’t until recently when I discovered that there were other bloggers (that I used to follow) who had taken a hiatus and also decided to return to the blog world. With that inspiration in hand, I decided to finally take the plunge and just do it. I’m starting over with a new name, new look, same old me.
